"Painted Lady" Inspired Buffet Example Wikipedia: "Painted ladies" is a term used for Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings painted in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details.
I loved this piece for the attention to detail.
Although the detail was beautiful, the black stain (patina?) was pretty ugly to me. Made me think of the '70s furniture I grew up with.
I would have liked to keep more of the original wood... but....
Its original condition: Pieces, shambles and sadness!
The knobs were painted metallic and patina'ed.
To bring it out a little more, the image of Victorian Painted Lady houses popped in my head.
The original veneer wood on the outside was gorgeous and rich. Green warmed it up really nicely.
It looks so much less austere and serious with bright colors on it. Dark wood against white paint sometimes "reads" like a hole in the wall.
We had to replace the top edging. Notice the clean lines inside the front door. A piece should be pretty inside and out.
The front oval pieces will have either collage family pictures or paintings.
